Senior Coordinator, SHL Northwestern Region
Smokers’ Helpline (SHL) is a free, confidential, evidence-based service that provides support, advice and information over the telephone and online across Ontario. Based in Thunder Bay, this full-time contract position, to March 31, 2009, calls for an individual with solid relationship-building and communication skills who welcomes the opportunity to promote SHL to a broad audience. You will collaborate with regional partners and service providers to increase SHL service awareness and utilization, coordinate services with local tobacco control programs, and create two-way referral mechanisms. With at least 3 years of related experience in a similar role, and an understanding of tobacco control issues and cessation strategies, you are prepared to contribute to the development and implementation of local/regional promotional activities and to the maintenance of a cessation services database. You possess excellent interpersonal and project management skills, are experienced in developing and delivering presentations to varying target audiences, and have a degree in a relevant discipline such as Health Promotion, Health Studies or Health Sciences, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and databases is expected, as is the ability to work overtime and/or outside standard business hours. A valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required for travel within Ontario. Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
